Nevada Unemployment Rate Hits A Staggering 28%

LAS VEGAS, NV (KXNT) - Nevada now leads the nation in the category of states most affected by unemployment since businesses were forced to close to slow the spread of COVID-19.

New numbers out Friday from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation shows that Nevada's unemployment rate is sitting at 28.2%.

Employment in the state is down nearly 245,000 jobs over the month.

Of course, all casinos and non-essential businesses have been closed for the past two months to try and help slow the coronavirus. Nevada is currently in Phase 1 of what Governor Steve Sisolak calls Nevada's "Roadmap To Recovery"

Restaurants, hair salons and stores have been allowed to reopen, but with strict guidelines involving sanitation and customer capacity.

Governor Sisolak hasn't given any indication on when casinos be allowed back in business, but the biggest companies along the Strip have said they will stagger the reopening of their properties.
