We rushed from downtown Dallas to Arlington, the site of the warehouse, to witness all five semis filled with donations from P1s and generous Las Vegans arrive at the warehouse.
And then we captured the very first donated items from Las Vegas to be offloaded in Dallas for hurricane disaster relief.
There are so many thank yous to so many people in Las Vegas that made this possible. Zappos and the Zappos For Good volunteers were absolutely amazing. Their leader, Steven Bautista is as passionate about helping the community as anyone we have met. Thank you to Lyft for offering to drop off donations for those that couldn’t make it down to the donation site on 7th & Stewart. Thank you to Phillip & Juan and everyone at The Salvation Army both here in Vegas and down in Dallas. They really do God’s work. (And, yes, there will be a “Phil Button” soon!) We couldn’t have traveled all the way to Texas to do our part without The Westgate Resort & Casino. Thank you, Gino. Another thank you to Sarah at Budget Rental Car Las Vegas for the wheels that got us safely to Texas.
Most of all, thank you P1s. Without you and your generosity, none of this is possible. We are thrilled to be part of this community and so grateful that you choose to listen to us every weekday morning.
And (hint, hint) we’re inside three months from the 19th Annual Chet Buchanan & the Morning Zoo Toy Drive. We’re going to need you again very, very soon.
Sunday Update: We made it! We arrived in Dallas at about 5pm Vegas time, the tip of the spear with five full semi-trucks following behind us. We left Albuquerque, New Mexico at around 6am Vegas time. So, about 11 hours when you include our collective first trip to Whataburger in Amarillo, TX.
We’re going to get some sleep tonight and then broadcast from CBS Radio studios here with friends from the Salvation Army and Zappos for Good. We’ll then head out to the Salvation Army’s staging area, 100,000 square feet we hear, to help unload those trucks filled with donations given with love from Las Vegas! We cannot thank everyone, enough, that made this effort possible: Zappos, Lyft, the Salvation Army and Westgate Resort and Casino. Obviously, a huge thank you to all of you P1’s who donated so generously. Without you, none of this would be possible.
While the drive started to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey, we’re sure that the donations gathered will be put to good use here in Texas, down in Louisiana or even for those affected by Hurricane Irma.
Here is our final Facebook LIVE from the road. We played “The Name Game,” and Spence got his authentic Native American dream catcher.
Update: We’re about halfway there. Chet, Spence & Kayla pulled into Albuquerque, New Mexico at about 10:30 Mountain time. The trip will resume in the morning. No real problems on the trip, save a speeding ticket awarded to Chet on I-40 about 187 miles outside of the ABQ. See our Facebook page for the hilarious Facebook Live video. We can’t thank the Westgate Resort & Casino enough for making this trip possible.
Saturday Update: Chet, Spence & Kayla leading a caravan of five semis filled with supplies from Las Vegas began their journey, leaving Green Valley at 12:15pm on their way to deliver donated items to the Salvation Army in Texas for hurricane disaster relief.
-All week, join us as we partnering with Zappos, The Salvation Army & Lyft to collect items to benefit those affected by Hurricane Harvey. We will be broadcasting live, each day for the remainder of this week, beginning each morning with Chet Buchanan & the Morning Zoo at the Zappos campus parking lot on 7th Street (corner of N 7th St and E Stewart Ave). We will be collecting items (list below) and deliver them to The Salvation Army in Texas (Dallas/Houston region).
-This is such a tremendous opportunity for two of the biggest brands is Las Vegas to work together. We will be live from 6am thru 7pm, Wednesday, 9/6/17 – Friday, 9/8/17.
-For each item that is donated, Zappos will make a $1 donation (up to $100k) to the Salvation Army to help those affected by this tragic event.
