It's patriotic.

By Amanda Wicks

The Olympics are the perfect time for new sportswear commercials, and those, in turn, are the perfect time to debut new rap tracks. Chance the Rapper lends some uplifting verses to a new song that appears in Nike’s latest ad celebrating the U.S. Olympic Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

The black and white ad begins by beaming video of men’s and women’s basketball highlights onto houses and buildings. “We want some heroes in our story/ We need highlights for a nightlight/ We want glory for a while/ We want results, we want results/ Hit our families, hit our folks/ Bombs bursting in air/ Oh say, can you see America’s face?” Chance raps as the camera cuts to him in profile, standing in front of an American flag.

The ad switches from video to shots of the U.S. Olympic Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, gathering in circles and pepping each other up to compete for their country. Chance leaves them with a message. “People, people, we the people would like you to know/ That wherever you go we’re right by your side,” he sings at the end.

The extended version, available on YouTube, measures just under 2:30. Watch below.
